About 6 years or so ago, Janet and I made the decision to get healthier.  We were always active and ate relatively well.  We joined a local gym to burn off some fat and changed our eating habits to what we thought would result in healthy weight loss.  For the most part we were diligent, working out 3 to 4 times a week and sticking to the salads.
We thought we were in shape…..well…until Janet was introduced to Howe Fit and then convinced (skeptical) me to join too.  We both agree that this Healthy Life Choice was a game changer.
Amy, Ray and the entire team at Howe Fit have been fantastic.  Teaching proper technique and always correcting posture to ensure you remain injury free, they encourage you to push your personal limit, recognizing that everyone has there own, challenging you to go beyond the limitation of your mind and live by there motto…..”you’re stronger than you think”.  Classes are easy to book and so many different options to choose from and right close to home.
Janet and I asked Amy and Ray to help us realize some personal goals.  We would like to thank Amy for designing each of us a personalized  meal plan (not a diet) that have many options and more food than we ever ate in a day before.  Amy collected all our information, listened to our goals and set us on a meal journey that has had results we did not think were possible.  Each time our meals changed, Amy had a plan based on where we were in relation to our goal.  We look forward to our Tuesday night personal training sessions with Ray (we call it Date Night with Ray, even on Valentine’s Day this year).  Ray’s weight training experience, unique training exercises, positive and encouraging style is second to none.  He pushes us to our limit and beyond with the focus of helping us meet our personal goals.  Thanks Ray…

As I sit down to write this I think back to me sitting at my computer scared half to death to hit the send button to a complete stranger who in my mind would sit there and read my questions and roll their eyes at how stupid they were and not even bother to respond because who would want someone like me to be at their “gym”.
Hours later I received an email back from Amy who suggested that I come in to see her to discuss my fitness goals further as she felt she could better answer them face to face then through an email.  I fearfully accepted her suggestion and set up a consultation.
I was so ready to make a change but didn’t know how and was so sure there was no way or no one that could help me do this.  But I tried to keep an open mind as I walked into Howe Fit for the first time.  I was greeted with a smile and a warm welcome.   Amy then asked me to come into her very private office away from the glaring stares I was so afraid to encounter.  She started asking me what I wanted, what goals I wanted to see.  Not what everyone else wanted or thought I should be, but what I wanted.  I began to tell her and she quietly listened and handed me a tissue as I began to cry tears of fear and hatred towards how I ever let myself get to where I was.  She then promised me that from that day forward that as long as I was willing to put the work and effort in she would do everything she could to help to make sure I would never have to sit across from her crying tears of sadness again.  She was going to start with me on my journey to change my life and get it back.  I joined “Howe Fit” and things have never been the same.
In the first couple of months I had a meal plan I followed and began trying all the different classes that Howe Fit had to offer.  Those glaring stares I was so fearful of I never got to see them.  Instead I got warm smiles and welcomes from fellow “Howe Fitters”, words of encouragement.  Everyone is so positive and helpful.  Everyone is always lifting each other up instead of putting them down.
A few months into being a member I went on vacation and gradually my work out schedule suffered and I was going less and less to the point that I hadn’t been in a couple of week.  I then got a little message from Amy asking where I was and that she missed me and wants to see my sweaty smiling self -back.  I was so taken back.  I mean who does that….not any gym I’ve ever been too.  All the other gyms cared about was getting your money and could care less about you doing things right to not hurt yourself. And never in a million years would actually give a crap about whether or not you went to the gym.
Fast forward to a year and a half later, I was at a stand-still and decided to do one of the many challenges that Howe Fit offers.   I was given another meal plan and a personal trainer with this one.  Again my fear of personal training set in as in past experiences with one it didn’t do anything but show me how to use the machines at the gym and didn’t challenge me.  But everything else about “Howe Fit” was different then all the other gyms I’ve been to so I knew this would be too and it was.   It was this challenge that I have to date had my biggest success in seeing big changes in my body.  People in the outside world are seeing the hard work I have been putting in and it feels amazing.  I could not have done it without Amy, Heather and all the other amazing trainers and staff at “Howe Fit”.   Not to mention my fellow “Howe Fitters” for lifting me up instead of putting me down.
So if you are fearful of trying something different don’t.  Life gets busy. I know this.  I work two full time jobs, have a long daily commute to work, have a husband who owns his own business two little ones but you have to take care of yourself.  I wasn’t going to use those as my excuses any longer.  In fact I owed it to my family to get healthy.  I have a lot of regrets in my life and making the decision to make a change and join Howe Fit will never be one of them.

I have been going to Howe Fit now for 3 years and I love it! The classes are great and so are the trainers, I notably enjoy Amy and Ray’s classes for their difficulty level and high expectations of everyone in the class. Within the last year though I was second guessing what I was doing. I was going to Howe Fit regularly and really wasn’t seeing the results I was looking for. Don’t get me wrong I was feeling energized and noticeably getting stronger but I still had areas of my body that I wanted to change. I eat a vegetarian diet so I thought what I was eating was healthy and didn’t need to change anything. But I just kept seeing all these before and after photos on Howe Fit’s Facebook page of all the successful people doing the challenges, meaning they were on one of Amy’s meal plans. So I thought a lot about it, I was on a tight budget and couldn’t really afford to do one of the challenges. Luckily for me during Christmas time Howe Fit had an 8 week meal plan on sale and I went for it. I was nervous because I didn’t know if I could even get a meal plan because I was a vegetarian and I wasn’t going to do one on one training but after talking to Amy she convinced me this was going to work and that I could keep my workout routine the same. She made up my plan and the first time I read it over I was thrilled. I get to eat french toast, pancakes and oatmeal!!!! These are my favourite foods and she was telling me that I can still eat them, slightly modified, and lose the unwanted fat on my back. I was skeptical but dedicated, I stayed very strict to the meal plan for the first 6 weeks until I lost my first 6 pounds. Yes it took me 6 weeks to lose 6 pounds but I wasn’t discouraged at all because I was being measured weekly and my body fat percentage was going down. To ensure I kept seeing results after those first 6 pounds were gone, Amy updated my meal plan and told me to have one refeed meal a week. I was shocked again, I get to cheat and still keep seeing results! It wasn’t until the end of the 8 weeks though that I realised how well I actually did. I knew I felt great and I knew I was looking in the mirror and smiling, but when I got my before and after pictures I was even more excited. To see such a dramatic difference, I was thrilled. Friends and family kept asking me when my 8 weeks were done and when I can start eating “normal” food again and I just said “that’s the thing, this is normal food for me now. This isn’t a “diet” it’s a lifestyle.” Yes, I would get the weird looks like I’m crazy but don’t knock it till you try it. I’m going on my 16th week of this lifestyle now and I am happier with my body than I have ever been. Thank you Amy, Ray and all the Howe Fit team!

As I approach my 1 year Anniversary at Howe Fit I look back at HOWE much I’ve changed both physically, mentally, and emotionally.
I had zero energy and also felt winded when playing with my kids….something had to change! I was committed to a happier, healthier lifestyle and HOWE FIT was exactly what I needed.
When I first started I was the girl in the back row who could not complete one full sit up, struggled to run the length of the parking lot, and wanted to run and hide every time I heard the word Burpee.
I was committed and started attending a variety of classes that worked with my schedule. Amy, Ray, Jaymie and the rest of the Howe Fit family encouraged me and kept me motivated. I looked forward to getting up bright and early and attending the early morning classes with a great group of people.
Over the course of the last year I took part in 2 of the 8 week challenges. This challenge makes you accountable and educates you on proper nutrition. This challenge resulted in a lifestyle change for me. Long after the challenge ended I still continue to lead a much healthier lifestyle, which has resulted in tons of energy, weight loss (40 pounds to date ), and most importantly happiness. I feel great and cannot thank the Howe Fit family for everything they have done for me this past year!
